Domain Name
-
A
domain name is the specific name of your web site. Your domain
name must be registered with NIC, the people in charge of issuing
all domain names and making sure that there are no duplicate
names. There is a yearly charge from NIC for this registration
(approximately $25 per year). A domain name (example: www.yourcompany.com),
comes in three parts.
The
first part is the "www", World Wide Web, which currently
all web sites have.
The
second part of the domain name "yourname", is the
name that you choose for your web site.
The
third part of the domain name is called the extension. The extensions
allow for more choices for domain names and also may categorize
web sites. For example: ".com" stands for company,
".gov" stands for government, ".org" stands
for organization.. New extensions have recently emerged that
include: .net, .biz, .info, .pro
